At Back in Action Osteopathic and Holistic Centre we provide a range of treatments to both support patients during recovery from injury and to optimise their return to fitness.
Sports Massage / Deep Tissue Massage / Hot Stone Massage
Training for an event? Recovering from injury? Just need some stress relief? Muscles feeling sore, painful or stiff?
Sports massage and Deep Tissue massages can help with musculoskeletal problems by reducing soreness, increasing circulation, improving lymph drainage and helping repair damaged tissues. Tight muscles will be released helping to avoid injury and improve performance.
Treatment can focus on a particular problem area or patients can opt for a full body massage.
Hot Stone massage is a special form of massage where the therapist uses smooth, heated (or cold) stones as an extension of their own hands. The heat can be both deeply relaxing and help warm up tight muscles enabling the therapist to work more deeply. The use of hot (and cold) stones applied to the body helps to bring relief to tense sore muscles as well as relaxing the mind, body and spirit.
Osteopaths treat all areas of the skeleton not just backs which is a common preconception. We aim to increase the mobility of joints, enhance the blood and nerve supply and promote the body’s own healing mechanisms. Postural advice and exercises may be supplied to aid with recovery and to prevent symptoms from returning.
We use a variety of techniques, including gentle “cranial” techniques through to joint release techniques (HVT) which can produce an audible click; this means that Osteopathy is suitable for all age ranges from babies through to senior citizens.
Homeopathy is a gentle, sympathetic and safe system of healing that acts deeply to restore the whole person, making lasting improvements at all levels: physical, mental and emotional. Homeopathy respects the fact that every person is unique so it treats the person as a whole and not just the disease.
Manual Lymphatic Drainage
Manual Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, flowing, rhythmic massage that helps the lymphatic system to function effectively. Possible benefits are to boost the function of the lymphatic system, improving the circulation of the lymph fluid around the body, helps fluid drain from the cells, improves production and distribution of antibodies, boosts immunity from disease, helps to remove toxins and bacteria from the body. Can help with oedema, skin disorders, headaches and sinus congestion, sprains, stress, digestive disorders and reducing scar formation.
This is an optional technique that can be used to enhance an osteopathic treatment. It is very useful for releasing contracted muscles. The needles used are very fine and can be inserted with a minimum of discomfort into muscles to help break the pain cycle.
We use the Kinesio Taping® technique together with Kinesio Tex tape (this was developed by Dr. Kenzo Kase in Japan more than 25 yrs ago) and have completed the KT1 and KT2 training courses. Sports taping can be used to provide muscle and joint support whilst helping injured tissue to heal. It can help with the reduction of inflammation, help reduce muscle fatigue by relaxing overused muscles or facilitating underused muscles. The tape used is latex free, allows the skin to breathe, allows range of motion and can be worn for several days.
Reiki is a combination of two Japanese words Rei and Ki, meaning Universal Life Force Energy. Reiki is an ancient healing technique that involves using the life force energy to heal, balancing the subtle energies within our bodies. Reiki, when activated and used for the purpose of healing will work on the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual bodies. It helps the body’s own ability to heal physical ailments. It is a completely natural way of treating disease and pain.
Benefits are relaxation, energising, calming and focusing of the mind as well as relieving pain, accelerating natural healing, improving health and sleep patterns.
Crystal Healing / Colour Healing
These holistic treatments use crystals and coloured silks in combination with healing to help balance the systems of the body as well as open the Chakras and generally relax and energise the patient. Specific areas can be targeted with special crystals and colours. These treatments can be done separately or combined to create an intense therapy.
