Why Osteopathy really works

Osteopathy originated over 150 years ago, in Missouri, by an army doctor who began looking into the body healing itself, instead of using medicine. He studied the anatomy and the mechanics of the musculoskeletal system, and developed the drugless medicine that is osteopathy.

It works with different parts of your body such as your muscles, joints, nervous system and skeleton. Using a hands-on approach to relieve pain, stress and tension throughout the body. People use osteopathy treatment to help with a variety of problems, from asthma to knee injuries. It is an all-round treatment that can help with fixing posture problems as well as improving breathing.

The treatment itself is made up of different techniques to target different areas of the body, such as cranial osteopathy, which can help with treating the whole body. As well as the manipulation technique, which uses applied pressure in a short, rapid movement to make joints click and relieve pressure. It isn’t painful and the pain from a joint is freed, giving you a sense of relief from the tension that had built up over time.

At Back in Action, we want to get to know you before we begin treatment, this is what makes osteopathy so effective. We need a full detailed understanding of the problems you have, we assess your body movement and how your posture affects you, as well as determining what lifestyle you have and if that is making your injury/issue worse. From there we move on to determine a specific plan of treatments and figure out exercises you can do at home to help ease the pain and compliment the treatment you will receive from us.

Osteopathy has been proved to help people with a range of problems, without the use of traditional medicine. The only negative side-effects of treatment is, mild pain or soreness and a headache, these tend to last 24-48 hours after the treatment, but is a small price to pay for the treatment you will receive.
